Tranquil seas

My first trip back to Anglesey since the start of the new year was rewarded with beautiful still conditions, crisp air and bright sunshine. Being out in the open air and absorbing the light of Anglesey was just what I needed after weeks of grey clouds and rain in the city.

Sunset was 5.30pm so I headed over to Aberffraw at around 4.00pm. I made my way to St Cwyfan’s Church which  is known as the Church in the Sea. It is to be found on a small tidal Island called Cribinau located off the west coast of Anglesey and close to the village of Aberffraw. Also known as Llangwyfan the church can be reached on foot at low tide. Old maps show the church standing on the mainland of Anglesey but erosion by the sea of the boulder clay cliffs has since separated the church from the mainland. The present building is said to date back to the 12th or 13th Century with the building undergoing many restorations. Some Norman masonry remains in the South wall, however the main body is 14th Century.

The conditions where so still and peaceful and buy 5.00pm I was the only person in the area. Below are a selection of images taken on the evening:
